LFW: Backstage with Maybelline NY

March 1, 2016

For this years LFW AW16 I got the chance to go backstage with the official beauty sponsors, Maybelline NY, to the Temperley and the Osman show and it was such an incredible experience. We are all so used to seeing the final products of the shows: models parade down the catwalk showing off the designers latest collection and they all look breathtaking with their striking makeup and hair, but we hardly ever see how the process they go through to get the finished look. Going backstage I was able to talk to the incredible makeup artists that come up with the concepts and watched just how they perfect a runway look.

At the Temperley show, the infamous Val Garland was behind the model’s look. I was fortunate enough to be able to interview her and she told me that Alice (Temperley) had told her this season she would be having some sort of shipwreck on the catwalk and so the theme was pirates and mermaids. For this, Val thought of ‘wet’ and glowing skin and began to work with Maybelline UK using their products to create this look. Here are the products she used:

Dream Satin

Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer

Baby Lips Balm and Blush

Superstay 24

Brow Drama Pomade Crayon

This is a look that can definitely be taken from the catwalk to your home! The skin has a powdered rouge tone while the skin looks fresh and vibrant while the eyes are super simple with a bushy brow. Perfect for an every day radiance.

The buzz backstage at Osman was electric and I had so much fun being back there. Sharon Dowsett was the head make up artist for this show and it was so interesting to hear about how she came up with this look. The inspiration of Osman’s show was Little Lord Fauntleroy and Buffalo Boy, and the girl in the show was to be tough but feminine, quirky and with ‘luxe’ skin. She told me she wanted to recreate the look of a ‘scowl’ on the catwalk using just an eye pencil and to create this she used the ‘intense dark bronzed fig’ eye shadow colour from the Blushed Nudes Palette. I thought that was so cool – to be able to create an expression with makeup.

Thank you so much Maybelline UK for giving me the backstage experience and I can’t wait to try out these products at home! It’s all about the glow this season!

Lots of Love, Roxie xx
