I made a decision at the beginning of 2015 to make this a year of well-being. I look back at 2014 with a bit of disgust, I ate too much, drank too much and just generally did not take of myself at all. So this year I have committed myself to trying out all the best exercise classes that London has to offer, and when I tried Psycle London, I fell in love.
You have probably heard of the infamous Soul Cycle in New York and Los Angeles, a spinning class with a twist: cycling accompanied with a music soundtrack energetic enough to compete with Ibiza’s super clubs. Now, PSYCLE has been opened in London and it was everything I imagined and more.
The classes are high energy, low impact and the rooms are low lit (perfect if you are worried about anyone having full sight of the sweat dripping down your back) with laser lights that change to the music. The 45 minute class sees you essential cycling to the beat of the music in a way I didn’t know was possible. I mean, when I think of cycling I think helmets, lycra, mountains and neon. I don’t think Beyonce, Jay Z, dancing and actually smiling.
The Managing Director of Psycle, Rhian Stephenson says “Psycle is something totally different than anything London has ever seen. It’s a place where people can come together and experience something amazing. It’s all about the experience – there is a unity to the class that creates something truly unique… the collective energy of the group is intoxicating and you leave feeling like you’ve had the most intense workout but are in a total state of bliss at the same time.”
I came out of the class full of energy, in fact so much so I struggled to sleep that night, and I had that euphoric feeling people rave on about post exercise but which I rarely experience. I went into the class a total beginner, I have never cycled before (except once last year on a Boris bike at about 2am on a Friday night, but I don’t think that really counts) and I still managed to enjoy it. So, whether you are an avid spinner or a total newbie, get your bottom down to Psycle, sit on that bike, pedal your heart out, and have the best sober night-club experience you can have!
Net-A-Porter have also teamed up with Psycle London, and are offering the most glam sportswear and gym bags possible – Valentino rucksack anyone?
