While in Dubai last week, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy towards the explosion of uploads on Instagram, with the hashtag ‘TanyasCafe’. Being an avid foodie, a lover of eating out, and holding a desperation to become healthier, I practically wept with excitement when I heard that a new raw vegan restaurant had opened in South Kensington. Oh, and the best bit? SUPERFOOD COCKTAILS (the first in Europe apparently) after 4pm. I mean, what more could a girl ask for? Guilt-free dining.
So, the day after I returned home, I went with a client after a mammoth Personal Shopping session, to check it out. The restaurant is so bright and airy, and with rustic furnishings and an entire wall covered with plants, there is a definite outdoor garden feel to it – it literally lifts your spirits as you walk in. Added to this, the napkins have written “Today Is The Best Day…” and above the kitchen on a blackboard is a motivational quote, which I was told changes everyday. What a lovely touch!
The menu sounded delicious, but I always get nervous when ordering food in a super-healthy restaurant, because sometimes they do just taste TOO healthy (in my opinion) and not that yummy. I went for the ‘lasagna’ made with courgettes and mushroom meat, and my client went for the taco salad. I also had an alkaliser green juice, which was delightfully refreshing. The lasagne came, and the presentation was just gorgeous, and it tasted so good, and was so surprisingly filling that I couldn’t even finish it. I was truly impressed, and before I left I couldn’t resist the vegan carrot cake, which tasted just as good as everything else.
Tanya’s Cafe is the loveliest little restaurant I have been to in a long time, and a great zen escape from the hecticness of the city. Plenishing your body with nutrients and goodness, while treating yourself at the same time is a win-win and I can’t wait to go back – although next time I’m not leaving without trying their vegan Margeritas.
